Mostly, most folk sediment to the simplest and effortless act of vocalizing praise. A few may go to the next level of giving a testimony. While all this is perfectly fine, it is too rudimentary and feeble a mechanism to show gratitude to God. After deep struggle I have found that the only way to truly express gratitude to God is by humble obedience to all his commands. This obedience should spring forth from the very cellular level in four dimensions —
- Personal disciplines, such as prayer, fasting and everyday baptism in the scriptures
- Moral accountability, in work and home to all
- Social responsibility, to each other — where we never ignore our fellowmen and their needs
- Internal immersion in contrition and humility, without which genuine gratitude can never germinate
This is why Paul tell us in Romans 12: 1, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship." Gratitude, that's what its all about.
